Andy LeMaster began recording bands in the early 90′s on a modest multi-track cassette portastudio. He moved to Athens in 1993 to study art at the University of Georgia. During his gradual acclimation to the music scene, LeMaster met and recorded many local bands and continued to invest in more gear. In 1997 he joined forces with fellow Athens engineers, David Barbe and Andy Baker, to form Chase Park Transduction.
Over the past ten years, he has contributed to many recordings by a wide variety of musicians. His most consistent affiliation is with Omaha, Nebraska based Saddle Creek Records. Andy has contributed to over 20 albums by artists on that label… Bright Eyes, Azure Ray, Now It’s Overhead, etc. Many great Athens, Georgia based bands have recorded with LeMaster as well… REM, Drive By Truckers, Macha, etc. And various other musicians from both far and near have worked with Andy in the studio over the years (please see discography).
Over the course of three albums, LeMaster has used his own band, Now It’s Overhead, as a vehicle for exploring production possibilities. “I take a lot more risks when I’m alone in the studio working on my songs. I’ll explore every production idea that comes to mind to determine which is best for the song. And I consequently end up with recipes for these sounds that I chase. I also hone a more informed instinct for which direction to take a particular type of song. And I can apply all of these discoveries to other clients.”
LeMaster has gained much of his music experience on the road as well. He is frequently a touring member of Bright Eyes and Now It’s Overhead, as well as Azure Ray and the Maria Taylor band. “I love the visceral experience of live performance.
